Maya Gabrielle Satterwhite, aka, Maya by Name, is an American singer, songwriter, model, dancer and actress.

The 22 yr old was born and raised in Buffalo, NY, with her parents, Susan and Richard; along with her brother, Kristopher. In school, Maya was a driven student, with an infatuation for the stage. Her father, a lifelong actor, inspired her desire to perform. Taking the lead in many school performances, most notably Mrs. Lovett in her senior production of Sweeney Todd, there was no doubt in the singer’s mind of what she wanted to do. Following her graduation from Kenmore West High School in 2014, Maya decided not to seek further education. Instead, she began recording her original music at a nearby studio.

Maya self-released her first single, To You, From Me, along with it's accompanying video in 2015, which she produced and co-directed. The single was apart of a live demo, titled Arrival, which Maya wrote on her acoustic guitar.

Following this release, Maya spent the next year building her base by performing locally, notable venues including Canalside Buffalo, and The Tralf Music Hall. Stepping away from her acoustic past, Maya combined her R&B, hip-hop and funk influences; a sound she felt better suited her larger-than-life goals. The singer released her first production-based EP, Next Verse, with an accompanying video for the project's single, Boss, in 2016. MAYA’S captivating stage presence caught the attention of R&B veteran, Tank, when she was chosen through Instagram to open up for his Savage Tour date in Buffalo. Behind the lens, the singer has been involved in modeling campaigns for Dick's Sporting Goods, Jared Jewelers, Mona B, Fisher-Price, and JoAnn Stores. Maya also starred in and provided a voiceover for two commercials for the high-tech manufacturing company, Bak USA.

Listeners were able to get a taste of her 2018 album, She, when Maya released the album’s first single, Raymond. The song describes a scorned woman confronting her unfaithful lover, which was dramatically portrayed in the song’s music video (which Maya wrote and produced). The second single, Rose Petals, is a post-heartbreak, self-love anthem, which was also accompanied by a video in November 2018. In an official statement regarding She, Maya explains that the songs are “all personal stories I wrote over the past year while battling depression, along with several diagnoses, including hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s disease.” She was released on December 21st, 2018. With a message of empowerment, and a voice all her own, Maya by Name is an artist with a vision - and certainly one to watch.
